Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ | introduction

The new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is the newest predecessor of the popular Raspberry Pi 3 Model B SBC. in this edition the Pi 3  gets a few new hardware announcements and improvements worth considering before choosing to buy a Pi 3 board. in this model, the CPU remains almost the same with the Broadcom quad-core, 64-bit processor based on Arm Cortex A53 architecture, but with few changes such as the ability to overclock the chip frequency from 1.2GHz up to up to 1.4GHz, an option many DIY hobbies would like to have.

Compared to the previous Model B that only supported 2.4GHz Wi-Fi this model has an improved WiFi chip that supports 5GHz 802.11 b/g/n/ac WiFi networks, capable of 100 Mb/s throughput which is more than enough for most home applications including video streaming needs. In addition, the board comes with Bluetooth V4.2 compared to the older model that only supported Bluetooth standard v4.1.

On top of the WiFi and Bluetooth upgrades, the wired internet also has a speed improvement, courtesy of the board’s new Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0 bridge, which ups the maximum throughput to about 300Mbps. Another plus for those using the Pi with a wired Ethernet connection is the inclusion of support for a Power Over Ethernet [POE] Hardware Attached on Top [HAT] board, which will add the ability for the Ethernet cable to power the board.
