Design & Build Quality

The speaker exceeded our expectations in both design and construction quality with great craftsmanship, that you don’t usually find in $41 speaker. Looking at the material used, its main body is mostly from wood material with plastic for the front operation panel including the interface panel located on the rear side of the speaker.

In the design arena, the external appearance is clean and impressive. You got a nice fabric covering most of the speaker body, giving it a modern and premium style. The speaker is designed to be used horizontally, but if you want to place it on a small shelf or desk it can also be positioned vertically, which is a nice option to have.

Sound Quality

Equipped with a pair of 10W drivers (each), giving the speaker(s) a total 20W of power. In our test, playing some YouTube videos via smartphone inside a 3-4 square meters room, we noticed that the volume level of the speaker was loud.

As for sound quality, we were impressed with the sound clarity without any hearing any noticeable distortions. Overall, the speaker is an ideal solution to use with a Mini PC or using it independently to listen to music from popular streaming services such as Spotify / Deezer / TIDAL etc. Or as a personal suggestion you can also use it with table PCs to enhance your listening experience.

Power Supply

The speaker uses a 5V-1A power supply for charging. According to product specifications, the 22000mAh battery life should hold up to 3–5 hours of playback. In our mind, using a Micro-USB interface looked a bit outdated. Nowadays, a Type-C plug is more popular and easy to connect, regardless of the right position of the plug is inserted into the port.

Other Functions

Radio

The function radio worked well, but, in our opinion, it’s not very user-friendly to operate as we initially expected. Most users would prefer the more simple method using a smartphone to stream their favorite radio station vs. Manually scanning for stations.

AUX Mode

Worked well for us using a long 3.5 mmm headphone jack connected to a desktop computer. The speaker produced clear and loud sounds.

Final verdict

The Smalody Bluetooth speaker is a great premium-looking product with excellent sound quality. We don’t recommend using it when going to the beach in an environment mixed with sand and water (no water protection) unless kept clean. In our opinion, it’s very suitable to be placed in a small living room where it will blend well as part of the furniture. The usage of wood material in the speaker shell construction is another big advantage we loved. In the end, this purchase is truly excellent and worth every penny!
