Hardware
Packed with a new snappier processor. The AM9 quad-core Amlogic S905X5 CPU really outshines the popular S905X4 with its speedy 0.5-2.4 GHz cores, built on a more efficient 6nm manufacturing process. Plus, it has a way better Mali-G310 GPU and features a 4 TOPS NPU for advanced AI tasks, such as smart upscaling and voice recognition. The hardware also supports the latest video codecs, including AV1 and H.266, and comes with full HDMI 2.1b features like eARC and VRR.
Additionally, the X5 chipset in the AM9 can effortlessly handle 2K and 4K video decoding up to 120fps. Next to the chipset, you have 4GB of DDR4 RAM, 64GB of expandable eMMC storage, and a decent set of ports, like three USB 3.0 which is more than enough for every user.

Wireless connectivity performance
The wireless capabilities have also seen significant enhancements, now boasting Wi-Fi 6 support with an impressive bandwidth of 1200 Mbps for both upload and download. In our brief test assessing throughput speeds at approximately 1 meter from our HUAWEI WiFi AX3 Pro router, we achieved downstream speeds via Ookla speed test in multiple simultaneous connections nearing 400 Mbps from our 1 Gbps fiber connection. That being said, by ensuring optimal wireless network configurations and deploying the right equipment, you can expect to see substantial gains in wireless performance.

Excellent article. Probably the best review for this player out there.
Thanks for your kind feedback.
Very informative and helpful review, I have been considering the AM9 for a few weeks now, my only concern is that it’s running Android 14.
I have read a few times that kodi isn’t good on A14, however your review states kodi runs fine.
I am not a tec person so rely on reviews like yours, if there are problems I assume newer versions of kodi will resolve this.
At present I am using firestick 4k max, it most certainly struggles with 4k movies so want a newer better upgrade.
Thanks for your comment! I can’t promise it will support every video format out there, but it handles my large video file samples just fine. If you’re less constrained by budget and interested in more powerful hardware specifications, consider checking out the Ugoos SK1.Both devices are compatible with Kodi.
Thank so much for your advice, it’s much appreciated, have a great day…soph
You’re welcome. Thanks.
