Performance Wise

When it comes to hardware expectations, do not anticipate the RV2 to perform at the level of a high-end single-board computer (SBC), which typically costs around $100 or more, depending on the product specifications. That said, the device offers satisfactory performance when running the Ubuntu Noble OS, utilizing kernel version 6.6.63 and the GNOME desktop environment. As mentioned earlier in this review, the board lacks a dedicated GPU, making it less suitable for high demanding multimedia applications.

So, what can you expect in terms of overall performance? It’s reasonable and decent. This board is primarily designed for lightweight AI applications, leveraging its integrated 2TOPS NPU, and mainly functions well as a compact router that can easily be taken on the go.

Additional applications

With dual NVMe SSD slots, this device is an ideal compact NAS solution for data backup. It also supports a variety of applications, such as operating as a mini server, and even functions as a mini controller for robotic projects, thanks to the convenient GPIO header pin option.

Are there any noticeable lags during operation?

The answer is no. However, if you’re accustomed to high-performance single-board computers, you might find this particular SBC’s performance to be a bit sluggish when running under a desktop environment. To enhance overall performance, we suggest considering installing the Xfce desktop environment, which is lightweight and can significantly improve your user experience.
