Software Support
At present, the Orange Pi team provides only single image file that runs Debian under kernel version 5.15.0 and Gnome desktop environment version 43.1. While it performs adequately, it doesn’t impress much in term of responsiveness. To enhance the overall experience, we highly recommend exploring a lighter desktop environment like Xfce.

Power Usage and Temperature Monitoring
In a nutshell. At an ambient temperature of approximately 27°C, chip temperatures can soar easily to 60°C, which is considerably high. To address this concern, we strongly recommend opting for an active heatsink solution rather than relying on a passive heatsink. That said, if you use an active heatsink along with some good adhesive thermal paste, you should see the temperature drop to about 41°C.
Performance Wise
Don’t think the RV will stack up against the Raspberry Pi 5 or any top-tier boards based on the Rockchip RK3588 SoC. Just like smartphones, single-board computers are sorted based on their hardware and specs, and this one is no different. In terms of performance, you could probably use it as a mini workstation or even as a server to keep an eye on your internet connection or run a samba server and stuff like that. On the upside, you really can’t beat the value for what you’re getting for the buck.
